SEATTLE, Oct. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Mantra Venture Group Ltd. (“Mantra”) (OTC.BB: MVTG) (Frankfurt: 5MV) is pleased to advise shareholders of the recent announcement by the Government of Canada to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

The proposed Reduction of Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Coal-Fired Generation of Electricity Regulations (the proposed Regulations) will set a stringent performance standard for new coal-fired units and those that have reached the end of their useful life. Stocks fall on worries about slower global economy

Dow falls below 11,000 after US stocks follow global markets lower on economic worries

NEW YORK (AP) — More signs of economic weakness sent stocks tumbling around the world Thursday.

Economic reports in the U.S. and Japan were the catalyst for the drop. The number of people who applied for unemployment benefits last week was higher than expected. And a report on inflation showed that consumers were paying more for gasoline, food and clothes. Japan said its exports fell 3.3 percent in July from a year earlier — the fifth straight month that exports fell for the world’s third-largest economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 445 points, or 3.9 percent, to 10,958 about an hour after the open. It was down more than 500 points earlier. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 49 points, or 4.2 percent, to 1,144. The Nasdaq composite fell 112, or 4.5 percent, to 2,399.

Thursday’s plunge meant a return of volatility that has sent stocks falling since July 21. It came after stocks had been relatively stable this week — a time when investors were calmed by strong earnings reports.

Stocks slide after unemployment claims jump

Stocks drop in early trading after more people apply for unemployment benefits last week

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks fell in early trading Wednesday after claims for unemployment benefits rose unexpectedly for the first time in three weeks.

The Labor Department said 412,000 people applied for unemployment benefits last week. Economists expected claims to fall.

Applications for benefits peaked at 659,000 during the recession and have dropped by roughly 6 percent in the past four months.

Ford Motor Co. fell 2 percent. The car maker announced that it was expanding its recall of its F-150 pickup truck because of a problem with their airbags. Ford’s F-Series truck is the best-selling vehicle in the U.S.

Among companies reporting earnings, toy maker Hasbro Inc. said profits fell 71 percent. Those results fell short of analysts’ estimates. Hasbro dropped 1 percent.
